Galerkin method for approximate modelling of finite-length journal bearings
Original language description
Galerkin method as a weighted residual method is one of many possible approaches to solve a pressure field which is governed by Reynolds equation. In this case, the pressure field is approximated by trial functions in the form of a combination of goniometric functions. Hydrodynamic force and stiffness and damping coefficients of fluid film can be further derived based on calculated pressure field expressed in the closed form. Results of presented method are compared to results obtained by finite difference method.
