Replacement of a Metal Fan Blade with a Composite One
Original language description
Currently, there are a lot of fan applications where they have been part of a composite blade composed of long fibers and epoxy resin. The usage of epoxy resin is limiting for high temperature applications. Therefore a composite material with carbon fibers and a geopolymer matrix, that has a very high temperature resistance in comparison with epoxy resins, was chosen in this work. An experimental modal analysis of the existing metal alloy blade and new composites one was performed. The obtained values were used to verify the computational models. Furthermore, bending tests of the mentioned blades were performed. Based on the comparison of experiments and numerical analyses of FEM, some previously unknown mechanical parameters of the used composite structure were specified.
