Dual-phase nanocomposite coatings based on crystalline ZrN and glassy ZrCu
Original language description
The study focuses on the preparation of dual-phase nanocomposite Zr‒Cu‒N thin-film materials based on crystalline ZrN and glassy ZrCu by controlled reactive magnetron co-sputtering and systematic investigation of their structure and properties. So far, only the nanocomposite Zr‒Cu‒N coatings based on ZrN and Cu phases have been reported in the literature. We demonstrate that by varying the process parameters, such as the target power densities, repetition frequency, and nitrogen fraction in the gas mixture, we can control the elemental composition of the coatings in a very wide composition range in such a way as to keep the stoichiometry of both phases as the same as possible and to change only the volume fraction of both phases. Our preliminary results suggest that the structure of the coatings gradually transits from amorphous-like to very fine-grained to nanocrystalline one. This transition is reflected by changes in the microstructure, mechanical properties, and surface morphology.
