    A rewiev of basic summary knowledge of fatigue damage mechanisms of metallic materials under mechanical loading in stages of changes in mechanical properties, fatigue crack nucleation and propagation is given. Some significant external and internal factors of the damage fatigue process influenced the relative length of individual stages of the fatigue process are listed.
