FE analysis of the role of the laminar junction in the mechanical response of an equine hoof
Original language description
Motivated by the desease of laminitis which causes pathological changes in equine hooves, we propose a finite element model of equine hoof considering all relevant components such as distal phalanx, laminar junction, hoof wall, digital cushion, ...etc. Special attention is given to the laminar junction that plays a crucial role in the mechanical response of the hoof. It is considered as a nonlinear hyperelastic Ogden material. Its material parameters are identified from experiments with a real tissue. Varying these parameters, influence of the laminitis in terms of stiffness on the overall mechanical response is studied.
