Distribution of levator ani muscle stress depending on initial position and rotation of fetal head
Original language description
The main aim is to develop MRI based model of the female pelvis floor to assess stress in levator ani muscle during vaginal delivery. The model geometry was constructed from axial 3T MR images. Fetal head and female pelvis were modeled by rigid bodies. Levator ani and obturator muscles were modeled by viscoelastic Ogden material. Boundary conditions were implemented according to the real anatomy. Analysis was performed for three different initial positions of fetal head - left occipitoanterior (LOA), left occipitoposterior (LOP) and left brow position (LB). The most problematic areas seem to be in the left muscle attachment to the pelvis, the upper arc of muscle especially on the right side and the lower arc in the middle of the muscle. The maximal stress varies between 0.013 - 0.038 GPa. The highest muscle stress was found in LB presentation.
