PERMEATION OF VO 2+ ACROSS MEMBRANES FOR VANADIUM REDOX FLOW BATTERY
Original language description
The power from renewable sources is highly unstable and intermittent which causes a lot of trouble related to transmission network. This problem might be solved by development of new local energy storages as a part of the modern transmission network. Vanadium redox flow battery excels as the stationary energy storage in its sufficient capacity (kWh) proportional to the electrolyte volume, long lifetime and high efficiency. Problem of VRFB that limited large-scale commercialization is high price. The relatively high proportion of the investment costs is due to the high price of membrane separators. In this work we present data of permeability of VO2+across different commercial ion-exchange membranes in order to find a membrane with good selectivity forthe usage in VRFB. Measurement of concentration of permeated VO2+ was realized by UV-Vis spectrometry. Results shows influence of membrane thickness and equivalent weight for permeation of VO2+ and also shows comparison between Nafion 115
