Chapter 3 - Structure defects and electronic properties of MXenes

  • Original language description

MXenes possess excellent properties because of the mixed nature of their bonding (metallic and covalent bonds) along with their synthesis routes, atomic stacking, surface terminal groups, and electronic structures. Although interest in these emerging materials is increasing, there remains a lack of systematic evidence on fundamental aspects such as correlation between processing routes, structure, structural defects, and properties of these materials. This chapter reviews and establishes a correlation between the most significant characteristics of MXenes, the structural and electronic properties of these combinations, and their properties as calculated by both theoretical and experimental methodologies, leading to an understanding of the status of MXenes and their potential in electronic devices. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
