    An important factor in fulfilling the needs for the correct functioning of a family as a unit is the parents' age. Among many others, an important task of the social worker is to evaluate a child's family background and find out whether the parent, whenregarding their biological age and mainly psychological and social maturity, is able to take care of themselves and others, in this case, of a child or children and other family members (the other parent, relatives). The goal of our research was to findout how the parents' age determines long-term child hospitalisation, what are the other related casualties, and to suggest possible remedies. In order to obtain data, we carried out a structured interview with parents. The research sample comprised 52 parents whose children and minors from 0 to 19 years of age have been hospitalised at various children's healthcare facilities.
