Original language description
ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to find out the opinions of general public and healthcare professionals relating to primary prevention, and the patients` approach to their own health. Development of Health Literacy under the Conditions of the Czech Health Care System A quantitative method using a non-standardized questionnaire was chosen to meet this aim. This questionnaire was based on the standardized questionnaire called The HLS-EU-47 of the HLSEU Consortium for the European Health Literacy Survey (HLS-EU), which is designed for the identification of health literacy. The questionnaire contained 38 questions arranged in individual areas and constructed in a way enabling to identify the healthcare professionals` opinions of the general public`s approach to primary prevention and to identify the general public`s health literacy. The choice of the sample was a quota choice, i.e., the respondents were employed by healthcare institutions of the South Bohemian Region, CR. It was a condition that the selected institution was involved in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. 166 respondents participated in the study. The results were processed by SASD software. Results: The healthcare professionals agree on the fact that the system of preventive care has been developed well and effectively. On the other hand, they mention the laxity of patients who do not undergo preventive examinations and go to see a doctor only if they have some health problems. The professionals were found out to be of the opinion that patients were not sufficiently involved in the care of their own health. A deeper statistical analysis did not discover any significant correlations between the medical and non-medical professionals` opinions. This study is supported by special funds for Research and Development of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, the University of South Bohemia, number ZGO2016_001.
