The material culture in south Bohemian rural society in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries
Original language description
Material culture represented one of the most important manifestations of villagers' inner world of ideas. The research into early modern Bohemian villagers' inner lives was made possible by using new methods (especially historical anthropology) to interrogate familiar sources (probate inventories and court records). In combinations, these helped the author to explore how the village community created its own value systems and patterns of behaviour, independent of the ideas and interests of the higher social strata.
