Original language description
Tomas Gariggue Masaryk (1850 -1937) is generally known as the first President of the Czechoslovak Republic. However, it is important to bear in mind that even before it happened he had experienced a very active professional life in the last years of the Austria-Hungary. In 1914 at the age of 64, he was the professor at the University of Prague, and the author of numerous books related to the fields of philosophy, sociology and history. The presented study deals with the personality of T.G. Masaryk. At its beginning, the author describes his studies, activities and shaping his thoughts. The great attention is paid to discussions with the Catholic Church, which he often criticized and came into conflict.
