Particles with evaluative and postural modality as possible devices of manipulation
Original language description
This paper tries to analyse expressions including evaluative and postural modality, mainly the expressions bohužel and bohudík (and their synonyms), which are commonly classified as particles. With help of the Czech National Corpora SYN2013pub, including journalistic texts, I try to prove the hypothesis that expressions bohužel andbohudík can acquire the function of sentence equivalent in some contexts, in spite of some evaluations, which claim the opposite. I try to analyse qualitative and quantitative disproportion between bohužel and bohudík considering the diachronic characteristics of these expressions. The main aim of this paper is to point out these particles as possible devices of manipulation on examples from political discourse; according to my hypothesis these particles can obscure a source or a recipient of modality, which could otherwise be marked by different grammar categories.
