Original language description
Fractal, a term known from natural sciences, has been a very appealing metaphor for interpreting properties of language for decades, particularly because of self-similarity of language and fractal on different levels of their analysis. This study tries to assess advantages and disadvantages of fractal interpretation of language considering arguments especially from quantitative linguistics (Hřebíček) and philosophy of science (Kellert). This study is focused particularly on the possibility of applying deterministic chaos theory (Kellert, Smith) on language.
