Original language description
On the basis of original archival sources, the article discusses the early history of the chair of natural law at Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague. Natural law had been discussed by Nikolas Ignaz Königsmann in Prague even before the founding. The chair was established in 1748 as an experiment and restructured after the Viennese reforms of 1752-53. It was then divided between a chair of natural law and a chair of public law. The article reconstructs the theses of Johann Franz Schrodt and the fight against the Jesuit competitor Josef Jurain. It shows that Schrodt’s conceptions followed the Viennese instruction and defended absolutism, civic duties and supremacy of the state over the church.
