Original language description

South Bohemia is a region with not very fertile land. Consequently, non-agriculturale activities have always represented an important source of livelihoods for its rural inhabitants. This study investigates non-agricultural rural activities in Southern Bohemia through a detailed quantitative analysis of land registers which recorded the main livelihoods of the inhabitants. It demonstrates the existence of a wide range of important non-agricultural activities in this region in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
