The secret candidature of William of Rosenberg to the Polish throne in 1574 and 1575
Original language description
The study examines the secret negotiations carried out by the Bohemian magnate William of Rosenberg in the mid-1570s. After the flight of King Henry of Valois, a group of Polish nobles offered William of Rosenberg to aspire to the Polish throne. The South Bohemian nobleman really became a candidate, but he had to hide his candidacy from Emperor Maximilian II. He therefore developed remarkable secret negotiations with various offers, bribes and at the same time a constant threat of exposure.
