„Consenting Cows”: Animal Justice in At Swim-Two-Birds
Original language description
This article studies the Flann O’Brien’s covert critique of sexual violence through the anthropomorphic figure of a talking cow which takes part in a sham trial. Through this distancing mechanism he is able to expose the injustice directed at victims of sexual violence such as objectification and victim blaming. At the same time, the heavily coded message and the comic treatment obscure the critical message.
