The Family Economy in the Bohemian Rural Milieu in the Long-Term Perspective: Social Changes in the Domain of Červená Řečice as a Case Study (Sixteenth–Nineteenth Century)

  • Original language description

The study focuses on changes in the social and property structure of rural society on the Červená Řečice estate in South Bohemia from the late sixteenth to the early nineteenth century. Drawing on land registers, cadasters, and other administrative records, it traces the development of peasant farms, the emergence of smaller homesteads, and levels of rural indebtedness. Special attention is paid to inheritance mechanisms, transfers of homesteads, and the ways in which accumulated debts were addressed. The study demonstrates the long-term fragility of the economic stability of rural households and the gradual transformation of social stratification within the rural community associated with the growth of small holdings.
