The Application of Functional Traits in Breeding Programmes for Dairy Cattle
Original language description
The selection on functional traits isn't well developed yet. Also the breeding objectives don't include these traits, but many researches cooperate on development of selection index, which would combine production and secondary traits. In our institutionthe calving ease in Black Pied cattle was analysed. The frequency of calving difficulties amounts 3-5%. As most important non-genetic effects the sex of calf and no. of calving were evaluated. The heritability was found to be very low, 0.02 for the direct genetic effect and 0.009 for the maternal genetic effect. The correlation between direct and maternal effects was 0.012. Supported by CEZ J06/98:122200004.
