The beneficial effects of titanium on plants and it´s biological interactions with the other elements

  • Original language description

Titanium (Ti) has significant biological effects on plants, being beneficial at low concentrations and toxic at higher ones. This experiment was done with similar scheme as the previous hydroponical experiment with oats, but the plants were grown on soiland Ti was applied using leaf sprays instead of adding to the nutrient solution. Three different concentrations of Ti(IV) ascorbate spray solution and three different Mg concentrations in each soil were tested. The interactions of Ti with other elementsand the influence of Ti on physiological parameters well correspond with our previous hydroponical experiment. Differences among two different soil types used are only in the strength of the effect of Ti, the trends remained unchanged. Generally the effect of Ti is considerably weaker if Ti is applied on leaves than if being added to the nutrient solution. The results corresponds with proposed mechanism called hormersis.
