Phytoremediation of diffusively contaminated soils by two different species of the genus Reynoutria
Original language description
The possible exploitation of Reynoutria sachalinensis /Friedrich Schmidt Petrop./ Nakai and Reynoutria japonica Houtt. as the part of the extensive phytoremediation-decontamination technique for cadmium (Cd) polluted soil was studied. The model plants were grown in pot experiments in years 1998 and 1999 on artifically Cd-contaminated soil.. We have confirmed the high accumulation ability of these plants for Cd in this work. The highest transfer factor values (45 in year 1998 and 43 in year 1999) were obtained for the control alternatives. It was observed that in the case of the artifically contaminated soils the transfer factor values decreased (from 7 to 4) with the increasing contamination by Cd (from 7 to 64 mg Cd. kg-1 ).The population of Reynoutria japonica in the antropogenically Cd-polluted catchment area of the river Liptavka was inquired. The transfer factor values changed depending in the distance of the locality from the river.
