Pathogenicity of intestinal and abomasal cryptosporidiosis
Original language description
Results of the recent molecular, phylogenetic, cross-transmission and biological studies revealed at least nine different Cryptosporidium species in mammals, birds and snakes. As regards of their location in the gastrointestinal systém, cryptosporid ia can be divided into two groups. First group, intestinal cryptosporidia (C. parvum, C. wrairy, C. felis, C. saurophilum, C. baileyi). Second group, gastric cryptosporidia having larger oocysts, infecting gaster of some species of mammals (C. muris), snakes(C. serpentis) and abomasum of cattle (C. andersoni). We studied histological and ultrastructural (TEM, SEM) pathological changes in the abomasum of three cases of young beef cattle of the Hereford breed slaughtered at age 81, 157 and 236 days. These animals shed repeatedly oocysts of C. andersoni in the feces before slaughter. At slaughter, 1 gr of the feces taken from rectum contained from 1 015 385 to 3 574 468 oocysts of C. andersoni. C. andersoni isolates were analysed using molecu
