Wood ants of the genus Formica were studied in the Protected Landscape Area in southern Bohemia (border with Austria). Seven species were found in studied area. The of the Formica aquilonia is important as the montane species. On the basis of results from comparison between recent observation and older one made10 years before was found the great increase of Formica ant nests. The successful widening of very valued species Formica aquilonia was approved.
