Nest sites and reproductive success of a restored population of white-tailed eagles in the Czech Republic
Original language description
A nesting population of White Tailed Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) was successfully restored in the last 20 years in South Bohemia (Czech Republic), primarily in the Třeboň Landscape Protected Area and Biosphere Reserve. The basis of the population was composed of wintering specimens from North Europe and some individuals from artificial breeding in Germany. This restored population is also unique because the colonized landscape has been markedly transformed by human activity (in contrast to other sea eagle colonized areas): the building of about 500 fishpond (constructed mainly in 16th Century), which are connected by a system of artificial streams, cultivated forests and agriculture.
