Original language description
The aim of this study was to test the hypotheses that the red and white blood cells and copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) plasma contents are impacted by altitude, season, breed, and management system in sheep. The ewes were kept at three farms. Blood samples were divided according to factors Altitude (A1, 550 m above sea level (masl), n=96; A2, 800 masl, n=48; A3, 910 masl, n=35; A4, 950 masl, n=12), Breed (B1, Charolais; B2, Merinolandschaf, B3, Sumavian sheep), System (S1, ecological, n=47, S2, non-ecological, n=144), Herd (H1, n=48; H2, n=96; H3, n=47). The animals were fed on pasture grass and they had ad libitum access to water and free-choice mineral supplement. The haematological parameters were determined as follows: leukocytes count (LC) was determined using a dilution method and Bürker chamber, the content of haemoglobin (HB) was estimated photometrically at 540 nm. The haematocrit value (HEM) was determined by capillary microhaematocrit method. The phagocytic activity of sheep was
