    On Diverse Identities of Caseworkers in Church Charity Organizations in the Czech Republic

    Prominent, world-famous sociologists (Berger, Dahrendorf) agree in that churches have become part of the citizen´s community. Together with the processes originated in the Industrial Revolution, this embodiment has a considerable impact on the position of churches in a community. The role of churches, Christianity and faith is perceived variably in liberal European countries and, to an ever larger extent, religious identification is a result of an autonomous personal decision rather than, e.g., a familytradition. As a result, "dechurching" (Halík) prevails over "dereligioning" in social relations. Research results indicate that the above mentioned trend also affects such specific groups as caseworkers (welfare officers) operating in church charity organisations. In their professional work, the caseworkers primarily follow the Christian charity precepts, lately formulated by Benedict XVI (Deus caritas est).
