Original language description
This chapter explores the traditional Christian presence in South India (especially St. Thomas Christians in Kerala) and its interactions with Hindu traditions and communities. These interactions take place in various fields - in the field of social customs, philosophy, religious practices and spiritual communities, etc. Mainly non-confrontational interactions and relations are described: more specifically, the various social, cultural, religious customs and rituals of St. Thomas Christians that are common to or influenced by Hindu traditions, the movement of Christian ashrams and the philosophy and theology of several Indian Christian thinkers. A significant part of the article is based on field research among the Christians of South India in recent years.
