THE US HEALTH CARE REFORM IN 2016

  • Original language description

This article points out the basic structure and intentions of the 2010 Health Care Reform Act, publicly known as Obamacare, such as better access to health care, greater motivation to buy affordable insurance, the enrolment of a more low income population into the state-run insurance programs and the improvement in keeping the overal costs down. The article shows the impact of the 2010 reform after six years in theprocess. The expected results have not been fulfilled and several serious flaws have emerged. Health insurance costs more and the insurance market competition has been going down. State programs have been enrolling more people into the system but the overall costs have been on the rise. The article compares the 2016 election proposals of the strongest candidates for the American presidency in the area of health care. The Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton´s plan introduced the view of keeping Obamacare, which included saving the best parts, solving the flaws and building on the program. The Republican candidate and now the new US president Donald Trump came up with a different solution for the health care system requiring the end of 2010 ?disastrous? health care reform, eliminating the role of the state in the systém and mainly supporting market forces.
