God in the Book of Numbers: Rationality and the Power to Forgive
Original language description
This study examines the idea that has been expressed recently by several biblical scholars who speak of God in the Old Testament as irrational or capricious. Such views appear especially when interpreting biblical texts that mention God’s mutability. Interpreting the passage in Numbers 14, the study argues that rather than presenting God as being deeply irrational and somehow “weak”, this narrative redefines the concept of God’s power, which opens the way to God’s forgiveness.
