Original language description
This review illustrates and re-classifies the pattern of algal distribution along water-availability gradients: aquatic (planktonic communities) - semiaquatic (hydro-terrestrial communities) and dry (terrestrial communities). The proposed re-classification is based on a literature review of the present state of knowledge. Special attention is given to hydro-terrestrial (wetland) and edaphic environments.
