    This is the first report documenting the presence of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase in Rhizobium. This enzyme, previously found in free-living bacteria, yeast and fungi, degrades ACC, the immediate precursor of ethylene in higher plants.
