Fish avoidance of acoustic survey boat in shallow waters

  • Original language description

The avoidance reactions of fish with respect to a survey vessel were studied during horizontal acoustic applications of Simrad EY500 split-beam echosounder (120 kHz) in two lakes (Wallersee, Balaton) and two reservoirs (Orlík, Římov). Three methods wereused to assess the fish avoidance reaction to the surveying vessel:. Comparing acoustic biomass for revealing avoidance reactions is limited. According to the slope of fish movement all fish were divided in two groups: with a positive value of slope (fish swimming away from the transducer) and with a negative slope (fish swimming towards the transducer). Fish avoidance caused higher values of slope. Most avoidance behaviour was found with small fish (target strength, TS < -40 dB, 21 cm) in ranges under10 m. In Czech reservoirs there was found no significant indications of fish avoidance. Much less avoidance behaviour was found with fish bigger then TS > -40 dB. At ranges over 10 m, the avoidance of small boats (5-6 m long, 15-25 HP two

Únik ryb před hydroakustickou průzkumnou lodí v mělkých vodách

  • Czech description

Únikové reakce ryb byly sledovány třemi odlišnými metodami v jezerech (Wallersee, Balaton) a přehradních nádržích (Orlík, Římov). Výsledky jasně ukazují, že ve vzdálenostech přes 10 m od menších výzkumných plavidel nepředstavují únikové reakce významný problem, ryby se chovají stejně, jako by loď nebyla přítomna.
