Original language description
By this proposal, the commonly used and widely accepted application of the generic name Cyanospira will be preserved. If this proposal were rejected, a new name for the cyanobacterium would have to be established, which could lead to later confusion. Furthermore, it is likely that the new name would be overlooked, ignored, or rejected by a substantial number of physiologists and molecular biologists, who would keep using the name Cyanospira to maintain its connection with the substantial volume of earlier literature.
