Centaurea oxylepis (Wimm. & Grab.) Hayek – a new species of knapweed for the flora of Germany. The first record of Centaurea oxylepis ( Wimm. & Grab.) Hayek from Germany is reported here. The species isrelated to C. jacea but is also similar to representatives of the C. phrygia aggregate due to the bracts ending in long, feather-like branched, curved back appendages. The natural distribution area of this species is in the Czech Republic,southern Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. The Czech and Polish occurrences extend close to the border with Germany, so that occurrences of the species in Germany were to be expected. An occurrence of the species was discoveredon a nutrient-poor meadow near Glashütte in the Eastern Ore Mountains. The species has been known to occur in this area for at least 40 years but was only now identified. It has also been found on a grassland area in the city of Dresden where it was established by seeding.Centaurea ×fleischeri Hayek, the hybrid between C. jacea and C. oxylepis, occurs at both sites, and is recorded for the first time from Germany.
