Die Fischartenzusammensetzung der Grenzmaltsch kann als weitgehend natürlich eingestuft werden. Gesunde selbstreproduzierende Populationen von Bachforelle (Salmo trutta m. fario) dominierten den untersuchten Flußlauf. Weiter wurden typische rheophile Arten festgestellt - z. B. Bachneunauge (Lampetra planeri), Koppe (Cottus gobio) und Äsche (Thymallus thymallus).
