The chapter discussed the importance of social dimension of learning in relation to an individual's ways of acquiring and using knowledge of mathematics. Our analysis of the set of videotaped lessons is based on the theory of a didactic contract (Brousseau), especially on two unwanted effects (the Topaze effect, the Jourdain effect).
