Industrial business started in České Budějovice relatively early ? in the first half of the 19th century. The town could take advantage of its location which is reasonable in the matter of traffic. The advantage was as well in developed local trades andvivacious business activities of local citizens. Two significant entrepreneurial families of Austrian origin moved to the town and started entrepreneurial function ? those were the Lanna family and the Hardtmuth family. In the surroundings of České Budějovice there was not any source of coal, so much important for early development of industry. This in fact, slowed down the development of local industry in 50?s ? 70?s of 19th century and in its specific coverage (there was a superiority of light consumer industry but without any textile industry). The period 1880 ? 1914 is a period of a stormy development of industry in České Budějovice esp. industrial production of pencils, enamel dishes, beer and production of matches and tabacco prod
