Auditing Electronic Auction Systems: Knowing the Risks
Original language description
The primary risk on online auction is the risk of losses resulting from non-delivery. While this risk is significant, there are other inherent threats in participating in electronic auctions, including the use of multiple identities to influence the auctions, identity theft and make-believe reputation. What can be done to prevent and/or mitigate these risks inherent in electronic auctions? An effective approach includes the establishment of reputation mechanisms (feedback rating system), users? identityverification or fraud protection systems. This paper describe the nature of the various risks inherent in electronic auctions and to outline some controls to prevent and/or mitigate these risks.
