Services present a very important component of a national economy. This book discusses services as economic activities, evaluates their impact on competitiveness and shows the areas in which services have a potential to develop and extend the competitiveness of other sectors and the national economy as a whole. A number of the EU member-states were observed for this purpose, among the transition economies of in Central Europe, selecting those with higher growth potential than the potential of the so-called old member-states. In the selected countries the changes proceeded more quickly, although according to the same market mechanisms.
