Agriculture and forestry are the sectors with the largest land use and as such they are very essential for rural communities. They are the basis of their strong social structure, economic viability and good governance of natural resources and landscapes.Sustainable development of rural areas is impossible without population living in countryside. To keep countryside alive means people living and working there not just commuting people, that have no relationship to the countryside and its landscape. Themain aim is to bring a survey on rural development strategy and approaches in case of the Czech Republic focused on employment of local people in diversified activities supported by programs based on EU Funds. The diversification of agricultural activities seems to prepare a sound base for raising the employment of local people in villages and it contributes to the sustainability of the population in rural regions.
