Impact of the Importance of Innovation in SMES on a Systematic Approach to their Management

  • Original language description

In today's turbulent business environment, it is increasingly difficult to create and maintain a competitive advantage, mainly due to a faster paste of changes that are affecting companies. Therefore, if companies want to maintain their competitive advantage they must innovate constantly. The main goal of this paper is to verify the assumption that companies that realized the need of constant innovation are approaching to the innovations more systematically. A systematic approach to innovations enables the company to methodically analyze and solve problems by generating innovative solutions. A systematic approach to innovations is thereby enhancing the company's competitiveness. Following hypothesis was set. The level of company’s systematic approach to the innovations is depended on the level of importance that is company assigning to the innovations. This hypothesis was tested by the Cramer’s test and the Chi-quadrate test on a sample of 208 small and medium-sized enterprises in the Czech Republic. The medium dependence was found between the two tested factors. Therefore, it can be argued that companies that realizes the need for constant innovations, in order to maintain their competitive advantage, are applying a systematic approach to innovations which allows them to innovate more effectively and thus it improves their competitive advantage. innovation, SMEs, management
