Original language description
Irving Fisher (1867 - 1947) was an important American neoclassical marginal economist of monetary focus. He was not just an economist but also interested in mathematics, statistics and econometrics. Contributed to index theory, he was Chairman of the Econometric Society in the United States of America. He focused on the theory of money and credit. As a supporter of the theory of marginal utility and the quantitative theory of money against inflation and deflation (and their negative impact on economic development), he promoted price stability and the purchasing power of money. Monetarists, especially the Chicago School of Economics, call it his predecessor
