The research on the digitalisation of public administration is crucial in the case of theCzech Republic and its rural areas due to the nature of the Czech settlement structure with manysmall rural municipalities. The article deals with the development of e-government in the CzechRepublic from the perspective of rural development. The paper's starting point is a characterisationof the digitalisation process of state and local government in the last quarter of a century. The paperfocuses on developing municipal websites, which represent a crucial communication channel in therural environment. The paper also discusses the possibilities and limits of e-democracy in ruraldevelopment.
