It has been 10 years since the first conference on fish reproduction biology was held in Vodňany at the Research Institute of Fisheries and Hydrobiology under the auspices of Prof Otomar Linhart. At that time, 46 experts in the field started a meeting called &quot;The First International Workshop on the Fish Sperm Biology&quot;, which became a tradition. In 2009, a second meeting was held in Valencia, Spain, on topics already included also the female sex products, entitled &quot;2nd International Workshop on the Biology of Fish Gametes&quot;, which was followed in 2011 by the third edition in Budapest, Hungary. The next one, in 2013, took place in Faro, Portugal, and in 2015 in Ancona, Italy. This year, the tradition returned back to the South Bohemia, where the 6th edition of this meeting took place from 4th to 7th September 2017, under the auspices of the Faculty of Fisheries and Water Protection of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and the South Bohemian Region. Exactly one hundred participants from 23 countries presented 57 oral and 52 poster presentations in 5 different sessions: 1) Spermatogenesis and sperm quality; (2) Oogenesis and egg quality; 3) Germ cells: from basic research to applied biotechnology; 4) Gametes Omics; 5) Anthropogenic contaminants. The meeting, which was held partially at the Clarion Hotel in Budějovice and partly at the International Environmental Education, Counseling and Information Center for Water Protection in Vodňany, was very successful. The next meeting is planned in Rennes, France, in 2019, where a prominent group of researchers of this fisheries field is located.
