Carp pond aquaculture. Concordance of Production and Nature
Original language description
Common carp pond aquaculture in Europe is often characterised as a low input system, with low labour and capital input, serving mainly local markets. Current increased effort for the concordance of carp pond farming with the requirements for the aquatic environment quality and habitat diversity represents an important objective of production sustainability. However, the nutrient loading from external sources, supplementary feeding and other management measures significantly contribute to carp pond hypertrophy. The necessary shift towards resource use efficiency and systems thinking in European carp pond aquaculture under conditions of changing climate is widely discussed.
