A long aquaculture tradition in the Czech Republic

  • Original language description

Fish production in the Czech Republic is mainly characterised by extensive and semi-extensive culture in ponds with a very long and reputable tradition. Salmonids, which are raised by intensive culture in raceways, basins and cages, show a considerably lower production when compared to that from ponds. Some fish (European wels and tropical species like tilapia and African catfish in particular) are cultured in facilities utilising waste heat and recycling systems. Also production of coarse and game fishfor angling purposes is provided with high efficiency.
