Natural diet and growth of 1+ siberian sturgeon acipenser baer-ii in pond culture
Original language description
In total, 84 juvenile 1+ Siberian sturgeon were cultured in two sets (2 x 42 individuals) in storage concrete ponds (200 m2, 0.75 - 1.12 m deep) with sandy-gravel bottom during May - September 1997. The diet of Siberian sturgeon consisted of 25 food items. After overwintering, chironomids and detritus prevailed in fish guts. These two last mentioned items and cladocerans Daphnia sp. were most important food components also during the growing season with 40.4-52.8, 16.3-19.4 and 19.1-28.8 % share in foodconsumed respectively. Dry feed particles occurred only in 8.7 % proportion in 31 % of fish examined. However in spite of its low amounts as found in examined guts, the importance of supplementary feeding with high-quality pelleted feed mixtures was crucial for the growth performance of farmed sturgeon.
