The chapter compares fish cytogenetics to other tools of fish biodiversity studies and provides several examples of the application of cytogenetic methodology to fish conservation issues, dealing either with endangered or invasive exotic species [case studies of hybrid polyploid complexes in genera Squalius, Cobitis, Misgurnus a.o., current problems with invasive species (silver crucian carp) and sturgeons and their interspecific hybridization issues].

V kapitole jsou srovnávány možnosti cytogenetiky s ostatními nástroji studia diversity ryb, a příklady použití cytogenetických metodik v problematice ochrany ryb jak v souvislosti s ohroženými druhy, tak i invazními exotickými druhy jsou dále rozvíjeny na příkladových studiích i) hybridních polyploidních komplexů r. Squalius, Cobitis, Misgurnus aj., ii) současných problémů s invazními druhy (karas stříbřitý) a iii) jeseterů a jejich interspecifických hybridů.
