Adjustments of the enzymatic complement for polyol biosynthesis and accumulation in diapausing cold-acclimated adults of Pyrrhocoris apterus

  • Original language description

The enzymes involved in polyol biosynthesis were investigated in an diapause and non-diapause insects. Differences in activity of glycogen phosphorylase and NADP(H)-dependent aldose reductase were recorded. Very high activity of NADP(H)-dependent ketosereductase (KR) was found exclusively in diapause adults. Different electrophoretic mobilities in PAGE gel suggested that KR and polyol dehydrogenase are two different enzymes.
